A Recent Disturbance

Not bad, I would say; after nineteen years of not keeping my love for the United States of America a secret, only one person who partakes in the services being rendered by Kalmenson & Kalmenson has voiced an objection to our generous displays of our country’s flag.

The man who did so actually put his feelings in writing. He referred to the American flag as being “Harvey’s flag.” I was under the impression it was our flag. He pointed out: Politics has no place in the workplace. In his eyes, I guess I was making a political statement. I was under the impression our American flag was significant for all political affiliations. In this great country of ours, this complainer has the right to say just about anything he wants to. He also has the right to pick and choose attending whatever event is open to the general public.

Displaying our American flag is a prideful and patriotic gesture. For many out there like Harvey Kalmenson it represents a love I’ve had for my country from the time I was a little boy, and further cultivated as a wartime member of the United States Army.

My American flags will remain unfurled and unbowed.

  1. Harvey, I want to say it is because of you that I understand what you meant about truth. It took me ten years to understand 🙂 your truth lies in your belief of what this country means to you and for the most part the majority of americans.. Being a fourth generation american. Think how many people came here to provide a better quality life for their children. seeing there names on the walls at ellis island gives me a happy spark to this day 🙂 I love this country and it has allways stood and will stand for freedom 🙂 like my grandfather who served in world war 2 to liberate europe from the hands of tyranny. I am simply honored to know ya. I have enjoyed reading your blogs . Taking down that flag when someone isnt truthful with themselves of why they feel that way . maybe, they should say what it is that they feel inside instead of telling you you should take down your flag. 😉 The flag never falls to the ground…. I think the world knows that because, we are the representation of the world as a country…. and that guy should be happy to express himself as in other countries it's not allowed do I need to make a list ? Sean Dennehy 🙂

  2. I agree with you Harvey. Our flag doesn't have a political view. It's not red or blue, it's red, white and blue. It could be stated with more complexity, but when you boil it all down, it is a symbol of Freedom. And I'm happy to see it every time I come to Kalmenson. Thanks!

  3. Our flag a political statement?? I think not. Please have this guy explain his point of view because I don't get it and would like to understand.

Generally, a flag is simply a symbol that unites people from a region, be it a state or country or other region, for a variety of reasons including pride. The components of a flag (i.e. stripes, stars, snake, bear, maple leaf, colors) usually have historical or regional meaning to that region. Politics? Where does that come into play?

Love the flag Harvey. Please keep it up to remind us how lucky we are to live in this country and be Americans.
